Hallo: The Mission Statement

Making a personal record of the articles I read and what I glean from them, since I can never seem to remember where I came across an article or a thought or impression. They just vaguely stick, later popping up in conversation to my subsequent frustration when I find myself unable to locate the source. So this will be my method of documenting what I've read, watched, consumed --- primarily on the internet, but possibly offline as well. I will provide information regarding the content, and occasional commentary. And because I'm a bit of a logophile (lover of words), I'll occasionally geek out and note tasty lexical choices, citing OED.

David Byrne's Survival Strategies for Emerging Artists — and Megastars

In which the Talking Heads frontman discusses the current state of the music industry and the 6 primary business models for artists, from 360 deals to complete Do-It-Yourself. A rather optimistic outlook, not for the record labels particularly, but for the individual artists. Granted this article is three years old. Has valuable short audio clips of Byrne in conversation with representatives from Merge Records, from Radiohead's management, etc.

[However, Byrne's usage seems more along the lines of] definition 4: To extinguish or wipe out (a debt or other liability), usually by means of a sinking fund, which eventually redeems it.

pabulum: bland intellectual fare, pap: a sample of this; an insipid or undemanding diet of words, entertainment, etc.
